Who can use this program?
If you or someone you know are at risk of sharing or reusing needles and/or having difficulty accessing clean, sterile needles for your intravenous drug use or medications they are available for FREE through Project Safe Point, a program of Catholic Charities AIDS Services.
What do I need to do?You will need to obtain a voucher and take the voucher to a participating pharmacy and redeem it with the pharmacist. They will ask for identification just to check that you are over 18 years of age. They will also ask you to create a unique code with your initials and month and year of birth. This is only for tracking purposes. Your name will never be requested.
How do I get a voucher?
You may obtain a syringe voucher at the programs or sites of the AIDS Council of Northeastern New York, Catholic Charities AIDS Services, Centro Civico of Amsterdam, Damien Centers in Albany and Schenectady, Albany Medical Center AIDS Treatment Clinic, Whitney M. Young Health Center, Unity House, Capital District African American Coalition on AIDS (CDAACA), Sacred Heart Church of Albany, Homeless and Traveler’s Aid Society and QUEST. You can also obtain vouchers directly from Project Safe Point by calling (518) 449-3581, or by asking for a voucher at any of the participating pharmacies.

How many syringes can I get at a time?
With each voucher that you redeem you can obtain 10 free syringes.
Do I get any other supplies with the syringes?
When you redeem the voucher, you will get a bag containing: safer injection supplies such as cookers, cotton, alcohol pads and band aids; a sharps container to be used for the safe disposal of used syringes; information about HIV testing, safe sharps disposal and the ESAP Program; and an additional voucher that can be redeemed the next time you need new syringes.
Is this program legal?
Yes. It is perfectly legal to obtain syringes through this program.
