Project Safe Point’s launch of syringe exchange services is nearing its two year mark.

I thought I knew the history of Thanksgiving, but spent some time researching it on the internet.

The Albany Diocese serves fourteen counties in the Upstate Region. Unfortunately, Catholic Charities AIDS Services does not have the staffing or funding to provide services in every county. The peer program allows Project Safe Point (PSP) to reach those in need of our syringe exchange services through trained peers in outlying counties where we do not deliver services.

Imagine being HIV positive, undocumented, with few resources and limited language proficiency. Unfortunately, undocumented HIV positive individuals have little to no access to resources and, furthermore, struggle to address their medical needs in a comprehensive manner due to their lack of financial stability.

Project Safe Point received an urgent call late on a recent Friday afternoon asking for our help.

On August 31st 2011, Catholic Charities AIDS Services, through Project Safe Point recognized Overdose Awareness Day by holding a day-long open house to provide training on overdose response.
