I am happy to reveal the agency’s new mission statement, developed by Catholic Charities staff, in this issue of Helping in Hope. Periodic review of mission is important to ensure that we communicate our intent to the community. Further, Board members and staff who are guided by our mission toward achieving the same goals together. Often in the community, staff responds to questions relating to who we serve. Many people assume that Catholic Charities AIDS Services defines limits on the people we can or will serve. The intent of the new mission statement is to remedy this misperception. At the recent Catholic Charities Annual Dinner, Bishop Howard Hubbard spoke and reaffirmed for those gathered that God loves each and every one of us, obligating each agency, and the staff and board that serve within Catholic Charities AIDS Services, to do the same. Even the most challenging client has strengths and we are empowered to assist them on the journey to hope as they cope with their HIV/AIDS. By enhancing individual and family capabilities, we strengthen our communities and promote positive change regardless of orientation, lifestyle or belief. We welcome the opportunity to partner with those struggling with addictions and mental illness, to those with varying gender identities and sexual orientation, religious beliefs, family composition and background, disabilities, and personal challenges so that they may achieve the goals they define for themselves and their families. It is my hope that you too will partner with us in compassion, dignity and respect for all who live amongst us. |
